Holder of the Throne.
For all the hoopla, all the coverage, the criticism and the hype that inserts of the 90s have stirred in basketball cards in the last two years, in my eyes THE #1 insert card is NOT the Michael Jordan 97 Precious Metal Gems Green /10. While that card is indeed shiny, scarce, with a photo that captures Jordan’s esesence and often talked about, I think it takes a backseat to this:
The first ever Michael Jordan jersey card made in 1997 not only depicts him in a jersey you can actually see matches up to the swatch, but it is limited to 23. As I recall, the REGULAR jersey cards were seeded at 1:2,500. So for this card to be autographed, limited to 23 AND part of Upper Deck’s ground breaking set, I personally think it is the crown jewel of the modern collecting era.
It is currently available on ebay with a $50,000 BIN or make an offer. The seller states that he has only seen two appear on ebay and he bought one of them.
